Before the tooth-bejewelled tosspot that is Mick Hucknall got his hands on it, Money’s too tight to mention by the Valentine Brothers was a classic 80’s boogie tune. John and Billy Valentine first had an LP out in 1979 with the Richard Evans’ produced ‘The Valentine Brothers’ on Source, but it was in 1982 they released ‘Money’, along with the LP. It was Simply Red’s first single in 1985, and pretty much wiped out any chance of the original becoming a hit – it’s pretty close for a cover. Still, I guess the Valentine’s will at least have got a reasonable wad out of it, as they wrote the whole thing.
I’ve noticed there’s a remix that came out as well, though I’ve not hear it. Anyone?
Billy Valentine is still recording, check out his site here, but first, check out this tune. Don’t forget to share it (with the button below) or comment if you like it. Innit.
