Ah, heritage. Including Mr.December the last three guests we have hosted boast between them over 100 years experience of DJing. Talk about time served! We are indeed blessed, being mere minnows in the wide sea of music by comparison. DJs of such a fine vintage should really be reserved just for Christmas but hell, we’ve been feasting since October, gorging on some of the finest aural cusine money can’t buy. Despite unwrapping most of our presents early we’ve left one intact, wrapped up in old copies of Blues & Soul and shaped suspiciously like Blackpool soul stalwart Pete Haigh.
Like both Hewan Clarke and Colin Curtis before him Pete has an appreciation of soulful music that begins in the late 60’s and follows the path through Northern, Modern, Jazz Funk, Disco and beyond through a myriad of genres and sub-genres up to the sound of soulful house; one of many sounds he can be heard spinning all over the North today. Obviously for our snug little back room we’ve asked him to generally dig out some more down-tempo favourites from his super-extensive collection but are happy to let him introduce us to whatever his refined tastes choose!
Not just a feature behind the decks but also behind the desk – radio or otherwise – Pete is an authority on Black music and hosts Funkology, a (now 25 year old!)monthly segment of Steve Barkers legendary On The Wire radio show and has written for publications including The Face, Blues & Soul and Manifesto. Once voted one of the world’s most influential DJs he is still a hugely enthusiast figure and true ambassador for the scene. We could get tired of saying it, but this, again, promises to be a very special night! Support comes from the Northern Comfort residents, Robd, Andy Vee, Catcalledmorris, Sad Eagle and Treva Whateva
