Mama!milk

By robd • Oct 3rd, 2008 • Category: Blog, music

Have a listen to this Japanese group mama!milk. Really beautiful, soundtrack-y, jazz-y, experimental accordion playing loveliness; the best new thing I’ve heard in a while I think. You can buy their LP directly from them, it’s not available yet outside Japan. I’d recommend you do so, immediately.

Mr Scruff - Ninja Tuna

By robd • Sep 23rd, 2008 • Category: Blog, music

Hey yo.
The brand spanking new Mr Scruff LP was released yesterday, though if you weren’t paying attention it may have sneaked past you like a sneaky thing on a sneaky day.
Six years after the release of Trouser Jazz, NINJA TUNA, featuring Roots Manuva, Quantic, Alice Russell and others has been kept a secret from nearly [...]

The Futility of Flogging Music

By robd • Aug 30th, 2008 • Category: Blog, music

Great post from musicthinktank on the futility of flogging music. So many good quotes, but here’s one from the end.
Yes, your music might conceivably have been stolen, but there are no police. So get used to it. And now you’re freed of this burden, pursue all the other things that you want from being in [...]

Madlib - King of the Wigflip

By robd • Aug 21st, 2008 • Category: Blog, music

I love Madlib, like a small child who’s my own age and brilliant and in a different country. Not sure how that works.
When you’re making music, it’s tempting to buy the illest, smoothest, most hi-tech machinery; have the best studio, the fattest monitors, etc, etc. And if you don’t have them, you use that [...]

88 keys preview

By robd • Aug 20th, 2008 • Category: Blog, music

Here’s a preview of 88 keys’ new album out on Decon records.
“The album forms a narrative outlinging (sic) one man’s struggle with relationships, the most universal of all themes”
Though with tracks like ‘Viagra’ (where Kanye manages to rhyme Viagra with niagara and Jaguar) a track bemoaning a women complaining about her man not being able [...]
